The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act entitles you to a free copy of your credit report every 12 months. This does NOT include a free credit score. The ONLY score that really counts is Fico. More than 90% of all creditors use it for their lending decisions. Although some sites advertize that the score they give is Fico, that is not tru. The ONLY place the SELL fico scores is myFICO.com.

The scores that these sites offer a aren’t real FICO scores. They’re called FAKKO Scores, can be as much as 100 points off your Fico, and are therefore useless.

So Can I Get a Free Online Credit Score?
Yes. There are few services that offer absolutely free credit scores, with Credit Karma heading the list. Kredit Karma is a popular place to get free fico credit score without providing your credit card details first. There is no trial period – you can get a free credit score every six months!

The Free Online Credit Score that Credit karma gives is based on your credit report from TransUnion (one of the 3 major credit bureaus). Consumers report that it’s with in 50 points of your “Real” FICO, and very correlated.

Members of Credit Karma (everyone can join, it’s free) also receive a free credit score monitoring service, as well as access to the credit score simulator that allows you to simulate the effects of your financial moves on your score.
