If I apply for a credit card, and the application is approved, will there be a hard inquiry on my credit report from this creditor?

Yes, there will be a hard inquiry on your credit report, regardless of whether your application is approved or not.
Every time a creditor checks your credit with your authorization, it triggers a hard inquiry. the inquiry is registered when the creditor checks your credit and has nothing with the approval or rejection of the application.
A single inquiry has very little impact on your credit.
